How to customize & edit wordpress theme, I am a newbie?
Thursday, January 21st, 2010I know basic html, but I don’t know where to start. I saw many wordpress blogs has been professionally customized and I want to do so.
You can find pre-made themes here:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Themes/Theme_List
You can find basic instructions on making themes here:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Blog_Design_and_Layout#Themes_and_Templates
In all honesty, if you are new to HTML and CSS, and you don’t know much about PHP, your ability to edit themes is going to be severely limited.
Own Your Blog or Else! Easy WordPress Install

Watch this video tutorial and see how simple it is to get online with a blog today!
Create a blog using free software from wordpress.org and get tips on why, if you want to become a serious blogger, if you want to make money with your blog or, if you want to control your blog, then using free blogs such as blogger.com or wordpress.com is NOT an option … You must own your blog.
Here’s why …if you use hosted solutions such as blogger.com or wordpress.com, they can delete your site without your permission and there is nothing you can do about it. Also, using hosted sites to host your blog means that you have limited opportunities of monetizing your blog because some of them don’t allow you to make the most of advertising with say Google AdSense.
Wordpress.com for example makes it very clear that it is against their terms of service to commercialize your Wordpress.com hosted blog by hosting paid advertising and will result in your blog being deleted.
In fact, I’ve just been reading one forum where there is a reader called “Rainmaker” and he seems to have made it his job to report people who are commercializing their WordPress blogs and within no time, their sites have been deleted by WordPress. So don’t say you haven’t been warned.
What you need to do is go to WordPress.org and download their free software and then upload the software to the server where you have your own hosting account, using your own domain name. Alternatively, you can use the automated feature found in many control panel web hosts – fantastico.
So, whilst Wordpress is the software I recommend for your blogs, you should not confuse this with their hosted solutions where you simply log into their control panel, create a user name and password and suddenly, you have a blog that in my view, you don’t own.
The software that you download from WordPress.org is quite simply powerful and, once I show you how, you’ll realize it’s also easy to use and in my opinion is unparalleled in the blog software world. WordPress is not only my software of choice it is used my many of the top Internet Marketers because it’s simple enough for the newbie to use, yet sophisticated enough for the pro blogger.
Wordpress has a huge library of plugins that allows users to instantly add features, and functions to give it even more flexibility and, when you add up all these elements you end up with a program that is fully capable of creating highly attractive blogs that encourage people to visit the site and stay to read whatever is posted on it. If you ever wanted powerful blog software that was able to give you the opportunity of creating a more unique look and feel, Wordpress is it.
To get Get Started With A wordpress Blog and assuming you’re going to go along with my recommendation of building a WordPress blog on your own hosting account, you’ll need a domain name which you can get from godaddy.com and a hosting account which you can get from hostgator.com.

WordPress is the most widely used blogging platform today, with a hosted solution on wordpress.com for personal and simple blogs that do not require customization and custom plugins.
WordPress runs with PHP language and MySQL database. Requires a PHP supporting webhost.

Paperback, Wordpress in Depth
Monday, January 18th, 2010How do you work a WordPress custom theme?
Thursday, October 22nd, 2009Okay I need major help. I used to have various blogs on various sites and today I have signed up and payed for my own domain, the only trouble is that I can’t work the template. I downloaded a template directly from wordpress and tried to edit the CSS. I know how to put the code and change HTML but it still doesn’t show the full theme and ruins the one I had picked before even when I start from scratch. Am I editing the wrong thing? Please help!!
It is difficult to answer your question without knowing exactly what changes you made to which files.
To recover, you may upload a fresh copy of the theme, then from within the Dashboard under Design > Theme Editor make a small change to the theme you have selected, then save it and examine the result by viewing your blog. Keep making small changes until you get the effect you want. If things blow up, just redo the last change.
Being off one character can cause problems, so be patient and methodical.
Good luck!

What is the market share of Wordpress software among professional bloggers?
Sunday, October 18th, 2009I’m talking about the Wordpress software and NOT the free web-based wordpress service. Thanks, everybody!
That is hard to provide you with the exact specific numerical figure that you may be looking for.
But one thing that is quite clear is that most professional bloggers (hey, I used most, not all) tend to use Wordpresss software as opposed to other platforms.
A good place to visit for more details is Technorati top 100 blogs and you can be able to work up the list and discover what software they use to run their blogs.
